Ryan Zico Black is a name I'll never forget.....sadly for his time with Lancaster City.

I won a Season ticket to watch The Dollies for the very interesting 2006/07 Season. The answer to the competition question was Ryan Zico Black. I think I was the only entrant in the competition!

I was as Giant Axe for the dark evening game v Workington that season when the floodlights conked out at Half-Time with the Dollies 0-4 down, and having had their keeper sent off in the fist minute. The lights never went back on and the game was abandoned.

One of the regular posts I was asked to put on the OWS, not sure of the date:

It was nice while it lasted. After 3 hours stood out in the pouring rain, for once I could look forward to an afternoon in the sponsors lounge and what an afternoon! I rarely make it into the ground before kick-off but being in the sponsors lounge I left my duty in the car park early, collected your programme editor from the bar and wandered round to the Umbro stand. As the whistle blew, someone was commenting about the mass exodus from the North Stand when Thomson put the ball in the net. A fantastic start to an excellent afternoon. Bar in the corner, Grandstand on the box with the scores coming through, half time pie ‘n peas and man-of-the-match presentation in JB’s. Ah well, that’s my afternoon in the sponsors lounge over for another year.

So what did the ‘net spectators think of Saturday’s 2-0 win over Gravesend?

“Solid performance in the second half, and the lads played within themselves throughout. Jim Bentley was outstanding, and the two Lees and Macca also played very well. The central midfield (including Shelley in the hole) didn't really click till late in the game. Danny worked his heart out and is obviously disappointed to be facing a period of suspension (the straight sending off was harsh, but I think the ref was probably thinking he should have booked him a couple of minutes earlier).
Not bad - great to have climbed the league but still a long way from second place, and must play more consistently throughout the game next week.”

“Not a complete performance by any means, but a good result in what was a potential 'banana skin,' & of course a clean sheet (remember them?). Very important to get some confidence back in the side before next week and we did that today. Shelley, Thommo, Jimbo, Danny C, Lecky & Colks all played brilliantly today. Bad and good points I think today.
GOOD:
4-4-2!,
A clean sheet,
The return of Wayne,
Robbie training on the pitch before the game WITH today's squad,
The strong 'never say die' performance from Danny & Lecky (Lee Elam) (amongst others),
Attacking football right from the off,
A sound turn-out in the rain against a team that's far from well-known in truth,
Southport's defeat,
& Three points which move us in to the top 3.
BAD:
Some lapses inconcentration during which Gravesend could have pulled one back or even pulled level,
Danny's red card,
Stringy & Drummy looked a bit lost at times in midfield I thought,
The fact that Gravesend lost their cool and slightly spoilt the game,
& Robbie's slightly off target shooting before the match!
Few major complaints though and a great result. Excellent boys. “

Hopefully a lot of you will have heard about today’s match from the posters that have appeared everywhere. Two of our directors, Stuart and Mark, own an internet company (Iomart) and gave us the time of one of their graphic designers, Jonathan Coole. With some input from Posh Bloke, the special posters finally appeared last Monday. The internet was put to good use shaping the final poster, two designs were put on morecambefc.com and feedback given through shrimpsvoices. A few more designs later using the internet to publish the changes in minutes for everyone to see, one of the two was chosen for the final poster and it went into print. If you haven’t already got one, I doubt there’ll be any left in the club shop – rumour has it that everyone taking a poster for display took an extra one for themselves as a collectors item. Mine’s in the window, honest ‘guv! Plans are being made to carry on the posters and a group of people will be meeting to discuss, design and distribute. If you can help, please get in touch with the club, we’d love to hear from you. Here’s what Mark Hallam had to say:

“I take your point about long term initiatives etc. We have just this week put up a "new fixtures coming up" sign as you enter Lancaster at the merger of Morecambe Rd/Owen Rd, this sign cost nearly £1000 which comes from a non existant advertising budget. The telephone scheme was tried because it did not cost the club anything, i volunteered my staff and my phone lines to try a scheme that was different to the mainstream attendance increase ideas, ie kids for a quid etc.
I have asked on many occasions for help or ideas on increasing attendance, some people have put forward ideas which i have discussed with other members of the board, however most ideas are financially unviable. One of the main reasons for not running with ideas is that we do not want to alienate existing supporters or season ticket holders. For example, last season we tried the See you on Saturday scheme which was criticised by some supporters who bemoaned that they had paid to get in.
It is very difficult trying to run such a large organisation on a shoestring budget, it is also difficult trying to please all interested parties. However we must keep trying and i am open to any suggestions for new ideas or better still anyone who wants to volunteer his or her services to the club.
It is quite an eye opener to join the board of a football club and to find out how dependant that club is on the volunteer services of a few dedicated supporters. All schemes that we run are run with a view to them being successful, if they are a success then they will become long term schemes, if they are not then obviously they will be short term failures.
